The Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) joins the global Christian community in mourning
The passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, a beloved shepherd and prophetic voice of our
time.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Catholic Church, the Vatican, and all faithful
Catholics. We also stand in solidarity with all people of goodwill who grieve the loss of a
leader who embodied compassion, humility, and justice.
Pope Francis will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to the poor, care for
creation, and tireless efforts to build bridges across faiths and ideologies. His teachings
Laudato Si’ and Laudato Deum on environmental stewardship, Fratelli Tutti on human
fraternity, and Amoris Laetitia on love and family continue to shape hearts and minds.

Through Christus Vivit, he uplifted young people as the “now of God,” and in the Synod on
Synodality, he amplified the voices of women, youth, and the marginalised.
The Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy captured his pastoral heart, reminding us that we leave no room to love if we judge. As he once quoted from Venerable Bede: “He looked at him
and he loved him.”
Pope Francis leaves a legacy of faith in action, unity, and hope. We thank God for his
life and ministry.
God grant eternal rest to the Pope of the Poor.
In Christ’s service,

GENERAL SECRETARY
