AS FLAME,CCZ REAFFIRM COMMITMENT TO THE FIGHT AGAINST MALARIA

In its continued pursuit of holistic ministry that responds to both spiritual and social needs, the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) was honored to host a delegation from Faith Leaders Advocacy for Malaria Elimination Zambia (FLAME Zambia) to reaffirm their shared commitment to the national fight against malaria.
The delegation was led by the Lusaka Provincial Executive Chairperson, Dr. Penius Mbewe, who provided an update on the progress made in preparation for World Mosquito Day, commemorated annually on 20th August.
The 2026 commemoration will be held under the theme:“Kick Malaria Out – Community Action Against Malaria,” which emphasizes the critical role communities, churches, and local leaders play in preventing and controlling malaria.
Dr. Mbewe highlighted the importance of strengthening partnerships between faith-based organizations, government institutions, and community structures in raising awareness on prevention measures.
Receiving the delegation, CCZ General Secretary Fr. James Phiri expressed sincere appreciation for the coalition of faith leaders for their unwavering commitment to advocating for malaria elimination in Zambia.
He noted that malaria remains a serious public health concern that continues to claim many lives.
Fr. Phiri emphasized that health matters must never be treated casually, as they directly affect human dignity and community well-being.
He reaffirmed CCZ’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote healthy communities, strengthen public awareness, and mobilize churches to actively participate in national health campaigns.
The meeting further underscored the important role of the Church in promoting life-saving messages, combating misinformation, and encouraging community-driven responses to preventable diseases.
