Council of Churches in Zambia General Secretary Fr Emmanuel Chikoya has urged the media to take up its watchdog role and help in ensuring that all donations towards the fight against COVID-19 are well accounted for.
The Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) has learnt with shock the sudden passing away of Bishop Moses Hamungole of Monze Catholic Diocese and Fr Michael Kelly of the JCTR. Our sincere condolences go to the Hamungole and Kelly families and the entire Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB), and the Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflections (JCTR). The CCZ will remember Bishop Hamungole for his selfless dedication to the work of God, firstly as a Catholic Bishop; secondly, as Chairman of the Commission for Social Communications at the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops; and thirdly, as Chairman of the Department of Social Communications at the Nairobi-based Association of Member Episcopal Conferences of Eastern Africa.
The Joint Country Programme Zambia funded Radio programme is aimed at providing listeners with the opportunity to learn more about COVID-19 and engaging with experts, as well as Church and Community leaders on prevention practices. This edition of the programme featured Mtendere 30 Ward Councillor Watson M’tonga (r), CCZ Chaplain Fr James Phiri (c), and United Voice Radio Station Manager Daniel Sikazwe (l). The Programme also airs on Kafue FM in Kafue, Modern Radio in Chirundu and Kariba FM in Siavonga.
POLICE have been selectively enforcing the law by quickly arresting those perceived to belong to the opposition while giving a blind eye to those aligned to the governing party irrespective of the crimes they commit, the Council of Churches in Zambia(CCZ) has observed. The Church says the behaviour has become a danger to national unity and peace, that the country has continuously been praying and fasting for.
