Imagine No Malaria an extraordinary ministry of the people of The United Methodist Church held a Pan African Conference on Malaria in Lusaka, Zambia on April 27th – May 1st 2015 under theme “Program and Governance”.
The global forum Imagine No Malaria aims at putting faith into action to end preventable deaths from malaria in Africa, especially the death of a child or a mother. With a comprehensive approach to fighting this killer disease, Imagine No Malaria empowers the people of Africa to improve health infrastructure and achieve a sustainable victory over malaria.
The objectives of the meeting were to leverage knowledge and experience across Africa to support Health boards in addressing Malaria and cross cutting community health issues while strengthening health systems as well as building on key technical skills such as Program Development, Monitoring and Evaluation, Budget and Finance and Programme Management.
Speaking during the conference a government representative Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Health Dr Chitalu Chilufya described the conference as timely with its key pillars of focusing on treated insecticide bed-net distribution, improved malaria education, establishment of community based malaria control programmes, out-reach activities, engagement of the media and strengthening health facility capacities across the continent.
“Health is a critical sector in national plans hence deliberate efforts being put in place to attain the National Development Goals and the malaria –related Millennium development Goals,” Dr Chilufya said.
