The Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) has continued to play a pivotal role in supporting school going orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) in partnership with the Churches Health Association of Zambia (CHAZ).

This is evident from the recently undertaken monitoring trip to Luangwa District of which the HIV/AIDS Programmes Officer Munalula Akakulubelwa described as a very successful eye opener especially on the performance of the pupils.

“We talked to those we found on the need to improve their academic performance and they promised that they would work extra hard to improve during the end of term/mock exams”, she said.

“We also asked all schools to send the results of the pupils directly to the OVC Committee. This step was taken because whenever pupils were asked to bring results, they could not do so”, she added.

The monitoring team commended local church committee leaders for the commitment shown in the implementation of the program despite the long distances they have to cover.

CCZ has been implementing school support and sponsoring program through it’s’ member churches. In Luangwa District the Council of Churches in Zambia members i.e., the United Church of Zambia (UCZ), the Reformed Churches in Zambia (RCZ) and the Anglican Church are implementing the school sponsorship and support program.
